WHAT IS THE GLA:D™ CANADA PROGRAM?

Originally launched in Denmark in 2013 to treat symptoms of mild to severe hip and knee osteoarthritis using a combination of education, exercise, and functional movement training, the GLA:D™ Program was introduced in Canada in 2016
The program consists of three parts: an assessment to determine if GLA:D™ Canada is right for you, two educational sessions, and six weeks of supervised circuit-based exercise.

WHO IS IT FOR?

GLA:D™ Canada was designed to improve the quality of life of those with a diagnosis of hip or knee OA from a medical professional as their primary complaint
The program works to manage symptoms of osteoarthritis and prolong the need for a joint
replacement but is not suitable for those preparing for or recovering from surgery.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A physiotherapist will begin by examining your strength, range of motion, and function to develop a treatment plan and decide if GLA:D™ Canada can help you achieve your goals.
Within the first two weeks of the program you will have two 90-minute group education sessions to learn about osteoarthritis and understand how the GLA:D™ Canada exercises will help you manage your symptoms.
The exercise component includes 12 bi-weekly private or group classes with an individualized workout plan for each participant. The exercises target the sensorimotor system to focus on form and function of movement.
